New lenovo vibe x2. Lenovo Vibe X2 mobile phone: description, specifications and reviews. Information about the make, model, and alternative names of the specific device, if available.

A large number of modern smartphone manufacturers are trying to attract attention to their devices through a kind of “arms race”, which is expressed in increasing the display size, the number of processor cores, camera resolution and other important parameters. Therefore, sometimes it turns out that a smartphone has received quite interesting technical characteristics, but from the outside it does not stand out in any way compared to its competitors - it is still the same unsightly candy bar, of which there are a lot on the market. All this is well understood by Lenovo, which knows how to create not only interesting gadgets in terms of price/features, but can surprise a potential buyer with an original appearance. In this regard, the models of the Lenovo VIBE line stand out pleasantly, incorporating advanced technical characteristics and an interesting design. A striking example of this is the hero of our next review -

This model has an original and quite sophisticated design using high-quality construction materials. All this is wonderfully complemented by a 5-inch Full HD IPS display, a high-performance MediaTek MT6595M processor, a 13 MP main camera and a number of other equally interesting features, which we will consider in detail below. Delivery and configuration

The new product comes in a relatively compact box made of thick cardboard. The design is dominated by pale gray shades combined with a specific pattern and a minimal level of information content. Structurally, it resembles a kind of drawer with pull-out trays, made in the same multi-layered color scheme as the device itself. Depending on the color of the smartphone, the packaging changes its palette. On top of this design there is a dust jacket with the logo of the device line and the main characteristics of the smartphone. Thus, the packaging of Lenovo VIBE X2 looks quite original and pleasant.

The kit will include the following accessories:

  • user guide;
  • warranty card;
  • charger 5 W (5V, 1A);
  • micro-USB↔USB cable;
  • transparent plastic case;
  • protective film on the screen;
  • SIM card tray clip;
  • headset with headphones of vacuum design.

In general, the Lenovo Vibe X2 package can be described as quite generous. There is everything necessary not only for full operation of the device, but also to protect it from external negative influences.

Separately, it should be noted that Lenovo offers to purchase two interesting accessories for this model: Battery Xtension and Hi-Fi Xtension. The first of them is a replaceable battery, which allows you to double the autonomy of the new product with a slight thickening of the case (by 5.1 mm). The second accessory will appeal to music lovers. It features Hi-Fi JBL speakers (connected via Bluetooth), which when mounted increase the thickness of the smartphone by 8.3 mm and can act as a stand.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

If you look only at the front panel of the smartphone, you get the impression that we are looking at an ordinary strict rectangle with rounded corners. But upon closer inspection of the Lenovo VIBE X2, you will notice an unusual multi-layered edging that resembles a kind of rainbow (especially in a bright design), a cut of mineral rock or a sheet cake with smooth gradient transitions. The main tone is set by the color of the back panel, which can be white, gold, red or dark gray.

There are only three such separate multi-colored layers, and the fourth is always black (a panel with a screen and protective glass). In addition, it is somewhat narrower and thinner than the others. In practice, this solution looks very interesting and extraordinary, which pleasantly distinguishes the new product from its monochromatic competitors. In addition, thanks to its small thickness (7.27 mm) and weight (120 g), the device looks quite slender.

The front side of the smartphone (without any inscriptions or logos) is reserved for the display, which is covered with a strong protective glass. Along the contour, it has barely noticeable edges that slightly raise the screen above a flat surface. The width of the frames around the display is 3 mm on the sides and 15 mm on the top and bottom.

Above the display are located: a speaker, proximity and light sensors, a front camera peephole and an event indicator (the control point is present in the settings). The latter, when there are calls or alerts, flashes green, while charging - red, and when the battery is charged - lights up green. Below the display are three regular touch control keys: “Menu”, “Home” and “Back”. They are equipped with unobtrusive illumination (you can turn it off or set the operating time in the settings).

The plastic edging is made of separate layers (in our case, white, silver and gray). They have slightly different levels, which can even be felt tactilely. The workmanship is quite high quality, but there are minor gaps between the layers that can collect dirt and dust.

At the top end, in splendid isolation, there is only a universal audio jack (mini-jack 3.5 mm). The bottom edge is reserved for the micro-USB connector and the microphone hole.

On the right side of the Lenovo VIBE X2 body there are the usual controls: the “Power/Lock” key and the volume rocker, which imitate metal with a thin concentric notch. The left side (closer to the top end) houses a metal tray for a Micro SIM card, which can be opened slightly using the included clip. It should be noted that for the Asian market there is a version of the device with two SIM cards (“X2-TO”).

The non-separable rear side is made of quite practical matte plastic, which actively resists fingerprints and minor scratches. At the top there is the main camera lens (framed in a chrome edging flush with the body) with a single-section flash (the Flashlight application is present) and an additional microphone.

Below is the silver Lenovo logo. In the lower left corner there is a wide perforated area for outputting sound from the multimedia speaker, next to it are contacts for connecting accessories.

Thanks to its non-separable body, the new product offers excellent build quality and excellent structural rigidity. There are no backlashes or unnecessary sounds during moderate attempts at torsion and pressure. No streaks or other artifacts were noticed on the display either. The materials used give hope for a long service life.

Once again, it is worth noting the complete transparent plastic bumper, which successfully performs its protective functions and does not hide the main design feature of the smartphone - the multi-layer design.

In general, Lenovo VIBE X2 is characterized by a distinctive and quite sophisticated appearance, combined with comfortable ergonomics, which leaves a positive impression when you get to know it. Thanks to its relatively compact dimensions (140.2 x 68.6 mm), the device fits well in the average palm, and also does not burden the pockets of pants or a jacket at all. The controls (with a clear and moderately tight action) are in good places and are easy to find blindly. The proprietary advantages have not disappeared anywhere: waking up the smartphone using the “Volume” key or locking and waking up by double tapping in a free area of the screen, which greatly simplifies the user’s life.

Display

The Lenovo Vibe X2 smartphone is equipped with an IPS touch matrix protected by ultra-strong tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3. There is no air gap between the glass and the sensor (OGS technology is used), which has a positive effect on image quality and maximum viewing angles, but increases the cost of repairs (if necessary you will have to replace the entire display unit). There is a good anti-reflective filter and an excellent oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating. This ensures a fairly comfortable and easy sliding of fingers and reduces the rate of accumulation of fingerprints, and those that appear are easily removed with fiber or a regular napkin. In addition, to protect the glass, you can use the supplied film, which the manufacturer prudently took care of.

The resolution of the 5-inch screen is 1920 x 1080 (Full HD), which, in our opinion, is the optimal indicator for such a diagonal. At the same time, the pixel density is 440 ppi, which is quite enough to display very smooth fonts and obtain a highly detailed image in general. Even with a strong desire, individual pixels are unlikely to be visible.

The screen is characterized by wide viewing angles with minimal color deviation when viewed diagonally. The image boasts natural colors with the right level of saturation and sufficient contrast to produce a truly lifelike image. You can change the screen brightness manually or use automatic adjustment. The maximum level is quite enough (especially in high brightness mode) to work with information on a bright sunny day. The minimum indicator is quite comfortable for working in the dark. The proximity sensor locks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear.

As in previous branded flagship devices, there is the ability to manually adjust color temperature and saturation to your own taste, use ready-made profiles or use automation. It should be noted that the brightness of the backlight varies not only from the level of external lighting, but also from the brightness of the image on the screen itself, which is not always comfortable for the eyes.

Multi-touch technology allows you to process up to 10 simultaneous touches. There are no complaints about her work. There is support for a high sensitivity mode for working with gloves.

Sound

As already mentioned, Lenovo Vibe X2 is equipped with only one multimedia speaker, which is located at the bottom of the back of the case. This area is devoid of any elevations, which is why the sound is noticeably muffled if the gadget lies on a soft horizontal surface with the screen facing up. The volume level is quite high, which is quite enough for comfortable performance of most everyday scenarios (watching videos, games and speakerphone). The sound itself is also good: low, well-detailed mids and adequate highs are felt. In any case, you can use the universal audio jack (mini-jack 3.5 mm) and connect headphones or external speakers. Or purchase the branded Hi-Fi Xtension accessory mentioned above.

The standard player is Google Music, the settings of which are presented in the form of pre-created equalizer profiles. Complete vacuum-type headphones are characterized by clear sound (the entire frequency range is present) with a sufficient volume level. They cope well with their direct responsibilities and do not evoke the desire to immediately replace them with something else, which will save the future owner some money.

The sound in third-party headphones was tested on gaming headphones (impedance 60 Ohms) and vacuum headphones Vivanco HS 200 WT (impedance 16 Ohms). In both cases, the sound is pleasant and balanced, and the volume level is sufficient, even with some reserve.

The smartphone has a built-in radio module that allows you to listen to and record FM radio stations operating in the frequency range from 87.5 to 108 MHz. Traditionally, to turn on the radio, you need to connect a headset, which is used as an antenna.

Camera

The new product is equipped with two digital camera modules. The front one has a 5 MP sensor, fixed focus and a lens with an f/2.4 aperture. Photo and video shooting is carried out with a resolution of 2560 x 1920 and 1080p, respectively.

The camera's capabilities are quite sufficient for obtaining high-quality self-portraits (with a good level of lighting) and making video calls. The viewing angle is quite wide, which will appeal to fans of group photos. But it should be remembered that due to the fixed focus, the best zone of sharpness is just at half-arm's length. Then the blur begins. It is possible to start shooting using gestures, touches, blinking, voice control or a timer. In addition, a system for improving skin texture is provided.

The main camera received a 13-megapixel module and a lens with an f/2.2 aperture. There is a fairly fast autofocus, a bright single-section LED flash, as well as a digital image stabilization system (for video shooting only). The maximum photo resolution is 4160 × 3120 (13 MP) with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and 4096 x 2304 (9.4 MP) with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The video is shot at 1920 × 1080 (30 FPS) and is in mp4 format.

Photos obtained from the main module are characterized by pleasant color reproduction with natural saturation and a good level of detail, but their quality is highly dependent on the level of illumination. Using examples of footage, you can see that even in slight shadows, the noise reduction system works quite aggressively, blurring out small details. A good way out of this situation is to use the “HDR” mode, which helps to draw out the shadows from the image. The video recording also pleased me with good detail and smoothness of the picture (a good implementation of the digital stabilization system). It should be noted that all footage was obtained in cloudy weather. Under more favorable conditions the result will be much better.

The main camera settings menu visually looks quite laconic and at the same time beautiful. It has good functionality and also provides easy access to controls that are in familiar places. In addition to the aforementioned “HDR” mode, “Normal shooting”, “Panorama” and “Special effects” are available. You can independently adjust the aspect ratio, white balance, flash mode, shooting mode, additional lines, resolution and ISO value (100 - 1600) . An interesting feature is the ability to take a quick photo by double-tapping the Home key (the “Quick Shot” function), as well as launching the camera by simply lifting the smartphone in a horizontal position and then pointing it at an object (the “Camera Launch Gesture” function).

User interface

Lenovo VIBE X2 comes with a pre-installed Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, on top of which the latest version of the proprietary Lenovo Launcher v6.0 shell is installed. It looks good and bright with interesting and smooth animation. Traditionally, there is the ability to flexibly customize the appearance: creating, deleting and sorting desktops, themes, desktop wallpapers and lock screens, fonts, animations and a boot logo. The main difference between Lenovo Launcher and stock Android design is the absence of a regular application menu, since programs are placed directly on the desktop along with widgets. There is also the possibility of over-the-air software updates (FOTA).

Lenovo VIBE X2 has a number of quite useful applications, among which Security, SHAREit, SINCit, Power Manager and a number of others should be noted. They will help protect and optimize your smartphone's performance, make it easier to share content, back up personal data, and extend battery life. We have already encountered them in previous tests, so for a more detailed look, we suggest going to the review.

An interesting thing to note is the “Smart Menu” - this is a virtual key that can be placed in any part of the screen. When you press it, a quick access menu to the main functions of the smartphone opens with the ability to add or remove them.

The settings menu is divided into two tabs: “System” and “Special”. The first group contains well-known items that provide wide access to system settings: communication capabilities, appearance, screen settings, sound effects, etc. The “Special” tab looks much more interesting, where a number of features are concentrated that are designed to simplify the user’s life. Among them there is the “In your pocket” mode, when activated, the volume is turned up to maximum so as not to miss the alert signal. And in the “In Hands” mode, the signal volume is automatically reduced. In addition, Smart Standby mode does not block the smartphone while you are looking at it. Once again, it is worth noting the ability to wake up the Lenovo VIBE X2 using the Volume key and lock or wake up by double tapping in a free area of the screen.

Subjectively, the user interface has a pleasant and colorful design. It works quite quickly and smoothly. For a more detailed look at the functions and other applications, you can watch our video below.

Hardware platform and performance

The Lenovo VIBE X2 is based on one of the newest single-chip systems (SoC) - MediaTek MT6595M. It is built on the basis of a progressive version of the 28-nm HPM microarchitecture ARM big.LITTLE and includes 4 productive ARM Cortex-A17 cores with a clock frequency of up to 2 GHz and 4 energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A7 cores with a clock frequency of 1.69 GHz. The L2 cache size is 2 MB. This processor implements Intelligent Core Control Technology - MediaTek CorePilot, which provides a balance between performance and low power consumption. That is, under minimal load, only one core will be active (for example, in standby mode), and when maximum performance is required (for example, in 3D games), all eight cores will be used. In addition, the dynamic frequency of the cores changes depending on the needs. The IT PowerVR 6200 solution is used as integrated graphics - two clusters (cores) with a maximum clock frequency of 450 MHz. It received support for OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.1 and Direct3D 10.

The amount of RAM is 2 GB, and the permanent memory is 32 GB, of which 25.12 GB is available to the user. This space cannot be expanded, since there is no support for memory cards. It will also not be possible to connect an external USB drive due to the lack of USB OTG support on this platform.

The performance of the Lenovo VIBE X2 is at the level of modern flagship devices, as evidenced by the top lines of all current benchmarks. The test results are comparable to solutions based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801/805 and Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5433. The smartphone can easily cope not only with the smooth operation of the OS and its programs, but also with any modern demanding games. For example, such popular projects as Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8: Airborne run as smoothly as possible at high graphics settings. And even more demanding games, like Modern Combat 5 and World of Tanks Blitz, can be played without any visible drops in FPS. Of the tested games, GTA: San Andreas only sometimes slowed down, although very rarely. After a prolonged maximum load, the body of the new product heats up noticeably, but not critically, and this does not affect the comfort of use. Under normal operating conditions, the smartphone is barely warm, and not always.

Communications

The Lenovo VIBE X2 model works in all modern mobile networks: 2G (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), 3G (HSPA+, up to 42 Mbit/s) and 4G LTE cat4 (up to 150 Mbit/s; FDD Band 1 / 3 / 7 / 20 (2600 / 2100 / 1800 / 800 MHz)). There is only one radio module, as well as the number of SIM cards.

The quality of calls is at a high level: there are no interruptions or independent drops, and voice transmission is clear, although it depends on the user’s location. The earpiece is moderately loud, but without much reserve (should be enough for most scenarios), with a predominance of high frequencies. The vibration alert is of medium strength (you may not feel it in the pocket of thick clothes or a backpack).

The range of communication capabilities is represented by Bluetooth 3.0 + 4.1 LE and Wi-Fi modules. The latter has support for 802.11 b/g/n/ac protocols and Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot and Wi-Fi Display functions, and is also capable of operating in the 2.4/5 GHz frequency bands. Traditionally, there is DLNA support.

Wi-Fi data transfer speeds (wired connection 100 Mbps, router supporting the 802.11 n standard) reach a record high among previously tested smartphones: up to 84 Mbps for receiving and up to 49 Mbps for sending. Finding points and connecting to them pleased me with the speed and stability of work.

The global geopositioning navigation module supports work with GPS and GLONASS satellite systems. The first of them, in an open area, simply instantly (5-10 s) detects about 13 satellites and just as quickly connects to them. Communication is stable with most of them. Under test conditions, the detection accuracy was up to 7 meters.

Autonomous operation

The Lenovo Vibe X2 is powered by a non-replaceable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 2300 mAh. Under moderate load with 50% display brightness (calls, SMS, music, a little Internet), the new product can work without recharging for about 1 day. With minimal load, you can stretch this figure to 1.5 days. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone is capable of talk time for up to 22 hours on a 2G network and up to 11.5 hours on 3G/4G. In addition, the standby time of the new product can reach 17/16.5 days in 2G/3G networks and up to 10.5 days in 4G. If there is an urgent need to stay connected for the maximum amount of time or in case of low battery charge, you can use the “Emergency” energy saving mode. Activating it leaves only phone calls and SMS available, and other functions are turned off, which allows you to almost double the battery life of your smartphone. In addition, the manufacturer offers to purchase the Battery Xtension clip-on battery, which will double the battery capacity and thereby increase battery life.

As a result of watching HD video (MPEG-4 / AVC, MKV container, 4 Mbit/s stream) at 50% display brightness and Wi-Fi and GPS modules turned on, the device was discharged in 6.5 hours. A gaming simulation using Asphalt 8: Airborne with 100% display brightness and Wi-Fi and GPS modules turned on drained the battery in almost 3 hours.

Testing battery life using the popular PCMark benchmark (text editing, viewing video content, photo processing, etc.) demonstrated a result of 4.5 hours at maximum display brightness. The estimated operating time of the smartphone according to the GFXBench benchmark is 201 minutes.

The battery charging time from the complete unit (5 V, 1 A) is about 2-2.5 hours.

Results

Of course, it is a very interesting smartphone, primarily due to its original and quite sophisticated appearance, which stands out against the background of its monotonous competitors. In addition, the manufacturer equipped its creation with one of the most modern MediaTek MT6595M processors, which in terms of performance can compete with current flagship devices based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801/805 and Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5433, an excellent 5-inch Full HD IPS display with maximum viewing angles and natural color reproduction, as well as current digital camera modules (5 MP and 13 MP), which can boast of good quality of the received content. Additionally, there is support for all modern mobile networks (2G, 3G, 4G) and necessary communications (Bluetooth 3.0 + 4.1 LE, Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS, GLONASS), which function properly. All this is complemented by a high-quality software component, which is represented by the still current version of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS, on top of which the proprietary Lenovo Launcher v6.0 shell is installed. It has a pleasant and colorful appearance with flexible personalization options and fairly high functionality.

To ensure autonomous operation, there is a non-removable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 2300 mAh. Taking into account the excellent performance of the hardware platform and display characteristics, you should not count on high battery life with active regular use. The manufacturer took this situation into account and offers an interesting accessory - Battery Xtension (a replaceable battery in the form of an overhead cover), which allows you to double the battery life of the device. Another accessory worth noting is the Hi-Fi Xtension, which are overhead speakers that can additionally act as a stand.

Drawbacks include the lack of support for memory cards and the USB OTG specification, but given the amount of internal memory (32 GB), this is not something to worry too much about.

Overall, we have a unique and truly bright gadget with high performance and excellent functionality, which is sure to attract the attention of demanding active people who want to emphasize their individuality.

Advantages:

  • original appearance;
  • high-quality body assembly;
  • good delivery set;
  • excellent 5-inch Full HD IPS display with maximum viewing angles and natural color reproduction;
  • good photographic capabilities of digital cameras (5 MP and 13 MP);
  • productive hardware platform based on the 8-core MediaTek MT6595M processor;
  • support for all modern mobile networks (2G, 3G and 4G);
  • availability of Bluetooth 3.0 + 4.1 LE, Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS, GLONASS modules;
  • nice and quite functional proprietary shell Lenovo Launcher v6.0.

Peculiarities:

  • support for branded accessories Battery Xtension and Hi-Fi Xtension;
  • the existence of a version of the smartphone with two SIM cards.

Flaws:

  • lack of memory card support;
  • lack of support for the USB OTG specification.

We express our gratitude to the Ukrainian representative office of the company Lenovo for the smartphone provided for testing.

    The appearance is unusual and very pleasant for me. Light, very light. Although it costs Android 4.4, the interface developed by the manufacturer suits me quite well, everything is at hand, everything can be changed. LTE is basically what started the whole fuss because of it. And also Buns!!! Buns in the form of a film and a cover (bumper) included. Well, the price, so to speak, is still the old one.

    excellent size and weight for 5" nice appearance (no logo on the front) nimble I like the ability to control the backlight of the touch buttons

    The camera seems to be 13, but it would be nice to upgrade it in software. I don’t really like the automatic detection of the region of calling subscribers, it detects it incorrectly, but you can’t turn it off. Although not critical, it is still an inconvenience. There is also a problem with numbers in calls, it is not clear on what basis sometimes +7 is removed from the number in calls, and when a new call is made they say that the number was dialed incorrectly, you have to look for the contact in the book again and call from there.

    Short battery life, long charging time, dim notification light, screen illumination by backlit hardware buttons

    Camera - can be solved by installing third-party programs that provide real image quality.
    The battery - well, there’s nothing you can do about it, you have to pay for the thinness of the phone, but for me the operating time was much improved by using a utility that disables the 3G data transfer function in the background and removing the factory security after obtaining root rights. The effect in energy consumption is really high and the phone now really lasts for a day.

    For 13 pixels, the camera’s pictures are somewhat blurry, the battery lasts for about a day, but I don’t wait for 0%, but charge it as soon as possible.

    2 years ago 0

    1. Camera (because of it I gave it 4*): maybe my hands are crooked, but the photos always turn out blurry (I have never gotten a clear photo). The quality of the photo in the dark is even worse (if there is something white in the photo, it completely takes over the flash). Before this I had an HTC with 8 megapixels, the photos were much better (even at night with flash), although they were also not ideal.
    2. The phone has some kind of built-in feature that determines by phone number and shows on the screen the region to which you are calling or from which they are calling you. So, for example, the phone identifies the Kaluga region as the Chelyabinsk region. It correctly identifies only Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as if the call is to a landline phone (everything is clear here, based on the city code). But you can simply ignore this.
    3. A couple of times

Probably, the first years of operation of Lenovo (this is a Chinese manufacturer, if anyone didn’t know until today) can be called a real run-in. In this case, the smartphone market became a testing ground for the company where new devices were constantly tested. How did this manifest itself? At first, the Chinese manufacturer supplied mobile phone stores with not particularly expensive devices. However, at certain points, the sequence of inexpensive models was, so to speak, diluted with top-end smartphones with a corresponding price. But such moves were completely justified.

Introduction

On the territory of the Russian Federation, the Lenovo company has already established itself quite well as a reliable supplier of mobile equipment, tablet computers and laptops. And every year the position of the Chinese manufacturer is only strengthening. There are probably practical reasons for this. However, our goal today is not to characterize the company, but to figure out what its brainchild is called Lenovo Vibe X2, the price of which is currently about 15 thousand rubles.

Story

I remember that the real shift for the company was the sale of the flagship under the name K900. This applies to sales in the Russian Federation. In this regard, a completely logical question may arise: “Why then?” The answer is very, very simple if you think about it for a minute. The thing is that at that time the corresponding model had truly top-end characteristics, which won over what experts thought was a considerable audience to the side of the Chinese manufacturer.

At the same time, the device had a not entirely unique, but attractive design, which many future buyers of the device appreciated. Let us remember that the main parameter that influenced this was the phone body, made of thin, high-quality metal. The price of the device also played an important role. Thus, the Chinese company managed to achieve significant success in terms of promotion in the market, getting into the ears of many new people.

After the K900, several more good devices from the manufacturer entered the smartphone market. But the real leader among them turned out to be a model called Vibe X. Actually, the dominance of this device over other products in the line marked the beginning of the modification of the old (or the development of a new) device. Probably, Vibe X can be called a clear example of the way in which the Chinese manufacturer is capable of working, and what it can offer from smartphones to potential buyers.

It was precisely in such an environment, with such preliminary positioning, that the development of Lenovo Vibe X2 was carried out, the price of which falls in the range from 13 to 15 thousand rubles at the moment. Generally speaking, this is nothing more than a mid-range smartphone. Its parameters (and this means the hardware - from the processor to the camera) are not fantastic, but quite impressive, especially considering the cost of the device. The device has a universal design. Why did the Chinese decide to do this? Probably, the versatility should have helped avoid a large number of negative reviews. After all, you never guess who will like what. And universality is universality in Africa too.

A few more words about the cost of Lenovo Vibe In the article, you may notice mentions that the price of a smartphone is not that high. This refers to the current position of the device in the smartphone market. At the very beginning of sales, the cost of the device did not correspond to its buyers. However, now we can say that everything has settled down, and the device is put up for sale at an adequate price. In general, the basis for the positioning of the Lenovo Vibe X2 LTE is precisely the “price/quality” ratio.

Brief technical specifications. Software

First of all, let's note the operating system. On board the Lenovo Vibe X2 Gold we have the Android OS installed. More specifically, this is version 4.4 of KitKat. But some companies do not stop at using ordinary operating systems. This was also the case with HTC. The Chinese company decided to keep up with the Thais and developed a custom shell called Vibe UI, which it implanted into the Lenovo Vibe X2 Gold phone.

cellular

The device operates in GSM networks and supports HSDPA+. But what was especially pleasing (but for such and such a price it is understandable) is the ability to transmit data in fourth-generation networks, which is ensured through the use of an LTE hardware module. Thus, the owner of the phone will be able to surf the Internet at increased speed, open web pages faster and download videos and other media files.

CPU

In this case, the chipset we have is a device from MediaTek, this is the MT6595m model. The processor operates with eight cores, the maximum clock speed can reach two gigahertz. Very, very good for such a device at the appropriate price. The graphics subsystem is PowerVR G600. The smartphone has two gigabytes of RAM built-in, which is more than enough for 90 percent of games and applications. It becomes possible to successfully use the phone in multifunctional mode and open several programs at the same time. At the same time, the operating system works smoothly and clearly, without any hint of failures.

Memory

To store user data (that is, text documents, music, photos, video clips and films, as well as games and applications), the phone has 32 gigabytes of non-volatile memory. However, one of the disadvantages, even with such a volume, is the lack of a slot into which a memory card could be installed. He is simply missing. Apparently, the Chinese manufacturer decided that for the average user, 32 gigabytes will be enough for a lifetime. It’s bad, yes, but what can you do? Well, in the meantime, we move on.

Wireless modules

The Lenovo Vibe X2 phone, which is reviewed in this article, works with Wi-Fi wireless modules (in b, g, n band networks), as well as Bluetooth (version 4.1). There is also a port for synchronization with a personal computer or laptop. The same socket is used to charge the device. We are, of course, talking about the MicroUSB standard port. You can (and should, if using FM radio) connect a wired stereo headset to your smartphone. It can also be used when playing multimedia data.

Display

The Lenovo Vibe X2 phone, a review of which quickly spread across the international network, is equipped with a 5-inch diagonal screen. The display matrix is made using IPS technology, which means that the strain on the eyes of the phone owner during its operation will be reduced to a minimum. The technology works very well when the backlight is least active. Well, or when reading e-books from the device screen at night. The picture is displayed on the display in Full HD resolution. Dot density is 441 pixels per inch. There is a function for automatically adjusting the backlight level through the use of an appropriate sensor.

Cameras

The smartphone, which we will discuss at the end of this article, has two cameras. The main one has a resolution of 13 megapixels, and thanks to this it produces stunning photographs of objects. Is there anything else worth saying about recording video with it? Unless the resolution will be 1080 pixels. The front camera is perfect for selfie lovers. This is a 5 megapixel device. The main camera is equipped with an automatic focus function on the subject, as well as an LED flash.

Satellites

Navigation in space is carried out using GPS technology, and the module allows you to flawlessly accurately receive data on your location on a satellite map. Thus, the Lenovo Vibe X2 smartphone, reviews of which give the device a positive assessment, can also be used as a navigator when traveling by car.

Sensors

In addition, I would like to note the presence of an accelerometer, which is useful in some games. There is the necessary set of sensors. It includes a proximity sensor, which turns the screen backlight on and off during a telephone conversation, as well as adjusting the display illumination level depending on external light manifestations.

Autonomous operation

As a battery, the device has a built-in lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 2,300 mAh. Not so much, but quite a lot. Although energy will be spent, as they say, from the heart. And there is no doubt about it. Especially taking into account the specific features of the operating system of the Android family. In conclusion, we note that the dimensions of the phone in three-dimensional space have the following parameters: height 140.2, width - 68.6, and thickness - 7.3 millimeters. At the same time, the weight of the device has been reduced to a record-breaking weight of only 120 grams.

Conclusion and reviews

Among the advantages of the device is the good quality of cellular communications, as well as other wireless modules. Wi-Fi receives the signal freely, effortlessly. The cellular network does not disappear. What else can you expect from a smartphone for 15 thousand rubles, which is equipped with LTE technology? Good speaker volume. There is stock. The interlocutor’s speech from the other end of the line comes in high quality, cleanly and clearly. In general, the expected plus. The same applies to the vibration alert. It will be difficult not to notice him.

Among the expected logical shortcomings, the first one we have is battery life. Yes, in principle, 2,300 mAh is not so little. But clearly not for those who buy a smartphone in the hope of using it (with such characteristics!) to the fullest, non-stop, all day. In this case, the only solution to the issue will be to purchase an additional external battery, say, 10,000 A. It will allow you to fully charge the phone at least twice. And this is in the absence of an electrical network. The second disadvantage is the lack of a memory card slot. Although let's hope that the built-in 32 gigabytes will still be enough for phone owners.

Screen

The Vibe X2 has a 5-inch screen on an IPS matrix with Full HD resolution (1080x1920 pixels). There are no problems with the saturation and naturalness of colors. The range of brightness levels is also good, but the automatic backlight adjustment is too aggressive. It tries to increase dynamic contrast, but does a disservice: even not too dark images become almost unreadable under bright sunlight. You can turn on high brightness mode in the settings menu, but this noticeably affects battery life.

There is no air gap between the matrix and the protective glass - this design reduces reflections and increases brightness. But this solution has one big drawback: non-repairability. The larger the screen, the easier it is to break or at least scratch it. In the case of a conventional “air” design, the device can simply replace the protective glass with a touch layer. If you accidentally drop the Vibe X2, you will have to replace the entire display module along with the matrix, and this is several times more expensive.

In the dark, an unpleasant effect appears when the bottom of the screen is illuminated by LEDs under the touch keys - an obvious mistake by the designers.

Lenovo began its journey in the smartphone market by releasing models that focused on affordability. Today, having already become a prominent player, Lenovo is beginning to explore new opportunities to expand its share, gradually adding more expensive models to its smartphone portfolio. We received the Lenovo Vibe X2 for review, which the company tried to highlight not so much through its characteristics as through its unusual design. Let's see if Lenovo managed to create a smartphone that may be interesting not only in price and characteristics, but also in appearance.

Equipment

The smartphone comes in a box made in several colors, and even it tells us that what awaits us inside is not quite a simple phone. In order to open the box there is a special loop, pulling which opens access to the upper compartment.

It contains the device itself, paper documentation, a paper clip for opening the SIM card slot, a bumper made of transparent plastic and a protective film for the screen. The lower compartment contains a vacuum headset, a microUSB cable and a 1.5 A power supply. As you can see, the kit is more than good.

Appearance and ease of use

The dimensions of the smartphone body cannot be called small, as it is equipped with a 5-inch screen. The dimensions of the device are 140.2x68.6x7.27 mm, and the weight is only 120 grams.

The main feature of the smartphone is its multilayer body. That's where we'll start. When looking at the side panel in any color of the Vibe X2, a gradient consisting of three colors is clearly visible (not counting the dark display frame). This is what makes the appearance of the device unusual. It's worth noting that these are actually individual layers and not a painted solid plastic insert.

We received a gold color option for review, but it’s worth remembering that there are two more – red and white.

Otherwise, everything is familiar - the front side is covered with protective glass. At the top there is an earpiece, proximity and light sensors, a 5 MP front camera lens and a missed events LED. At the bottom are backlit hardware touch keys.

On the right side there is a volume control and power key, and on the left there is a slot for a SIM card in microSIM format. There is a 3.5 mm audio jack at the top, and a microphone and microUSB connector at the bottom.

On the back side there is a 13 MP main camera lens with a flash, an additional microphone, a manufacturer’s logo, a multimedia speaker and contacts for accessories.

Accessories include a removable battery, which doubles the capacity and adds only 5.1 mm to the thickness, and a two-channel JBL Hi-Fi speaker, which in turn increases the thickness by 8.3 mm, and connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

If we talk about workmanship, then in this regard the smartphone shows itself very well, not least because of the non-separable body. The only thing I didn't like was that the mechanical keys have some play. The smartphone came to us after several colleagues in the workshop and this is very noticeable.

The screen, despite the use of protective glass, is already covered with small scratches, and the back side also does not look the same as on the new device, so for those who like to preserve the appearance of the device, it is worth using the included screen protection film and a transparent case.

The location of the mechanical keys is very convenient. Everything is located where you would expect to find it. The ease of use is affected by rather sharp corners, but this is all a matter of habit. After a few days you don’t notice any discomfort at all.

Operating system and shell

The smartphone runs Android 4.4 paired with the proprietary Lenovo Launcher v6 shell. The appearance of the shell is already well known to us from the company’s previous devices that we tested. Let's just say that the device works very quickly, and the shell has many settings and interesting functions that can satisfy any user.

Hardware platform

Lenovo Vibe X2 is powered by an 8-core MediaTek MT6595m processor, which consists of four ARM Cortex-A17 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and four ARM Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. As a result, we get a typical solution made using ARM big.LITTLE technology. It is worth noting that the index “m” at the end of the processor name indicates that this is the weakest configuration of the MT6595 processor, which is characterized by lower frequencies. The video adapter is PowerVR 6200 operating at 450 MHz. The RAM capacity is 2 GB, of which about 1.1 GB is available during normal use. The built-in memory is 32 GB, but the user has about 26 GB left and all of it is available for installing applications.

The competitor to this processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (8974AC). I agree that there is much more trust in Qualcomm processors, but benchmark results and real impressions of a device with a MediaTek MT6595 processor indicate that there is no reason for mistrust.

The device's performance is more than enough for smooth operation of the interface and launching demanding games. For example, the well-known game Real Racing 3 runs at maximum settings without any drop in fps. The rest of the games are also easy to launch, but it is worth considering that when using the smartphone for a long time under high loads, its body heats up.

Wi-Fi and GPS work without problems. Data transfer occurs as quickly as possible, and the speed of searching for satellites no longer raises any questions. The voice speaker quality is not the best. At maximum volume the sound becomes harsh and squeaky. But the sound quality of the multimedia speaker is quite good, but everything is spoiled by its location on the rear side. If you put the smartphone on the table, the speaker is completely blocked, which greatly muffles the sound, making it easy to miss a call. The vibration quality is good, but you shouldn't rely on it alone. Those who like to listen to music on headphones will appreciate the sound, because it is really good.

We were unable to check the support of video codecs by the built-in player using AnTuTu Video Tester, so we used the old method. As a result, we can conclude that the phone easily copes with all popular video codecs.

Autonomy

The capacity of the built-in battery is only 2300 mAh. Despite this, with moderate use it can last a day with data transfer and automatic brightness turned on. If we limit ourselves to the basic capabilities, then we can count on two days of battery life with 4 hours of active screen and always-on data transfer. If this is not enough, then there is an “Emergency mode”, in which only calls and SMS messages are available. Naturally, if you use your smartphone to the maximum – play heavy games and watch videos – then be prepared to charge your device in the evening.

Display

The smartphone is equipped with a 5-inch IPS screen with Full HD resolution. There is an oleophobic coating, making fingerprints easily erased. The pixel density is 441 per inch.

In sunny weather, the software's ability to increase brightness and contrast is a great help. Thanks to them, the information on the screen remains visible even in direct sunlight. The automatic brightness adjustment sensor behaves adequately, smoothly adjusting the brightness when it is really necessary, without increasing or decreasing it.

One of the features of the smartphone is advanced screen settings. In addition to the standard mode, there is also an adaptive mode, a high-brightness mode, a customizable and an advanced outdoor mode. In custom mode, you can adjust hue and saturation.

The results of screen measurements showed the following: the maximum screen brightness is 373 cd/m² in normal mode and 564 cd/m² in high-brightness mode, the minimum value is 5.3 cd/m² in normal mode and 13.7 cd/m² in increased brightness, display contrast is 1:792 in normal mode. As can be seen from the results, it is not surprising that even in sunny weather the information on the display is easily visible.

Checking the screen calibration shows us that the display's color gamut is significantly larger than sRGB. Green and red colors are shifted towards warmer shades. The color temperature graph really pleased with the minimal deviation from the reference value. This is extremely rare. But the gamma curve didn’t work out at all. The graph shows a significant jump.

The result is a very good, I would even say correct, display. It incorporates both the correct temperature and high brightness levels. For those who like to read at night, the screen will also not seem bright.

Cameras

The smartphone is equipped with two cameras - a 5 MP front camera and a 13 MP main camera. The video recording capabilities are quite wide - the main camera records in Full HD resolution, and the front camera records in HD. If the front one is a completely ordinary camera with a fixed focal length, which is useful for selfie lovers or for communicating via Skype, then the main one is much more interesting. There are manual settings for contrast, saturation, sharpness, exposure and others.

The quality of the photos themselves is not the best, but good. In general, detail is smooth throughout the entire frame, and noise reduction works correctly. Even at night the pictures come out good. However, you can see this for yourself.

Results

Lenovo VIBE X2 is a smartphone that can stand out with its unusual appearance. Among its advantages, it is worth highlighting a high-quality and lightweight body, efficient hardware, an excellent screen and a good camera. But among the shortcomings are the poorly thought-out placement of the multimedia speaker and modest battery life. But don't think that everything is so simple. At a cost of 5999 UAH, it has a lot of competitors. Among them are both last year’s flagships, which have not lost their attractiveness, and new devices. And here the choice for the buyer will truly become very difficult, but even among all this diversity, the hero of the review is not lost precisely because of his appearance.
