Author profile in rintz functionality. Rinz – Russian Science Citation Index. How to register with the Russian Federation and how to determine your index

In a previous post, I already wrote that the Russian Science Citation Index is calculated by an electronic service scientific library Elibrary.ru. To find out your RSCI, you first need to register in this service, providing information about yourself as accurately as possible.

1. How to register on Elibrary.ru to calculate the RSCI?

There are two registration options: regular user and registration as an author. The second includes the first, i.e. first register as a user, and then as an author - or immediately fill out an extended questionnaire.

To do this, go to registration page and carefully fill out all fields marked with an asterisk.

In addition to the names, the fields also have explanations and hints. To see them, hover over the question mark next to each field.

Where there is a Select or Add button, click it and fill out the form that appears on top of the main questionnaire. For example, in the following form, manually enter the full name of the organization on the left, and select the city where it is located on the right. After that, click Search and select the desired organization from the list (if only one is found, click it - this is the only way it will appear in the field of the main form).

After this, the additional form can be closed.

Having reached the end of the user form, check the box next to the inscription “register me as an author in the Science Index system” and continue filling out - as an author.

When all fields marked with an asterisk are completed, do not forget to click the Save button.

2. Fields not marked with an asterisk are also important!

Fields that are not marked with an asterisk do not need to be filled in immediately; they can be edited later by logging into the same page using your name and password. But there is no need to delay filling them out, otherwise your RSCI will remain a mystery for a long time.

Be sure to fill out the Journals field (they are added from the ready-made RSCI list).

If you work or have worked for different organizations, enter the other organizations in the Organizations field (necessary for the best recognition of your work if some of your publications indicate other organizations).

For the same reasons, the form contains the Previous last name (maiden name) field.

3. How long should I wait for the result?

But I don’t know!!! In any case, the result will not be ready as quickly as one would expect from a modern web service! What were you waiting for? This is a serious Russian scientific service, and not some Yandex or Google! Its developers seriously complain that only a limited budget did not allow them to carry out manual data processing. I waited for the result for so long that more than once I imagined librarian girls painstakingly sorting through paper forms in wooden boxes.

Seriously, they say that information is processed within 10 days. But this is provided that you have not ignored the fields without asterisks. If after a couple of weeks there is no result, then check the completeness and correctness of filling out the registration form and, if necessary, make changes to it: edit keywords, add sections of thematic rubricator, magazines, etc. After editing, the RSCI should be determined almost immediately.

On the elibrary.ru website, in the menu on the left, click Author's search (or go to this link), fill out the form that opens and click Search.

The main numbers - the number of publications and the number of citations - are located at the bottom right. Clicking on any of these numbers will open the corresponding list of publications.

The viewing option is also available to unregistered users. Without registration or authorization, you can find out the RICN of any scientist - of course, provided that he himself is registered on Elibrary.ru as an author.

Dear employees of the East European Institute of Psychoanalysis, we have prepared material for you on various indicators that are used to assess the productivity of a scientist. We kindly ask you to familiarize yourself and take it into account in your scientific activities, as well as register on the website

Scientific Electronic Library!

How to find out if the author is registered in the RSCI and the SCIENCE INDEX analytical system?

  • Go to the website (http://elibrary.ru)
  • In the left column in the "Navigator" select AUTHOR INDEX
  • In the search form, enter your Last Name in the field.
  • Press the SEARCH button
    To see or not to see yourself.

Perhaps you are registered, but do not remember your login and password, or do not even remember that you registered yourself (the organization in which you worked or work could do this centrally), then you can use access restoration:

Enter your full name and your login and password will be sent by email. Use it to log into the site to use the author tools. Your first step is to go to the REGISTRATION FORM and make sure that you are registered in the SCIENCE INDEX system.

If you clearly saw yourself, but the system says that such an author is not registered, then this is true (there are links to your works in the RSCI database, but there was no personal registration). Start registration.

How to register with the RSCI and SCIENCE INDEX?

  1. It is necessary to fill in all fields, at least those marked with an asterisk, in the Registration Form and mandatory in the SCIENCE INDEX
  2. Click the Save button, go to your email and follow the link to complete the registration.
    After some time (no more than 10 days), it will be possible to use not only the library, but also the SCIENCE INDEX analytical add-on for authors (search for your publications).

How to search and add your publications contained in the RSCI database?

  1. Go to the website of the National Electronic Library (http://elibrary.ru)
  2. In the left frame in the "Navigator" section, enter your username and password, click LOGIN
  3. In the top menu, select the FOR AUTHORS tab
  4. In the middle column, select AUTHOR’S PERSONAL PROFILE
  5. In the middle column, select MY PUBLICATIONS (you will be able to see the entire list of publications associated with the author)
  6. In the SHOW search field - indicate only “unlinked publications that may belong to the author”, do not uncheck the “consider publications extracted from cited literature lists” checkbox
  7. Press the SEARCH button
  8. Check the boxes for your publications, if any. You can reduce the choice by using, for example, specifying the subject or other parameters
  9. In the right frame, select "Add selected publications to the list of works"
  10. You will be asked to add these publications to your list, Agree

If some of your publications are not in the RSCI database, then only a responsible representative of the organization (in our case, VEIP) can add them there, if he has such rights.

Next, if you have questions, you need to read the section RSCI AND SCIENCE INDEX IN QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What is a scientific citation index?

Russian Citation Index (RSCI)

1. Impact factor for a scientific journal (it is calculated as the number of citations in a particular year to articles published in the journal over the previous 3 years and is, to some extent, a characteristic of the authority of the journal)
2. citation index (RSCI)
3. HIRSCH index

A distinctive feature of these indicators (RSCI and HIRSCH index) is that they can be applied to any array of articles (author, laboratory, institute, country, etc. for any period of time).

Russian Science Citation Index(RSCI) is the main analytical system for assessing the publication activity and citation rate of Russian authors, organizations, scientists, and journals.

RSCI email address - www.elibrary.ru

In Russia, the citation index is increasingly being introduced into the field of science and education every year.

Today this indicator is actively used:

  • The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation to assess the activities of scientists and scientific organizations in general, when conducting an examination of applications for funding within the framework of federal target programs and other competitions;
  • heads of scientific institutions to certify scientists and assess the effectiveness of their scientific activities;
  • publishers scientific literature and periodicals to predict the demand for the works of a particular author among the target audience.

Web of Science andScopus

The most authoritative of all international systems citations whose indexes are recognized worldwide are: "Web of Science" and its competitor - a relatively young system " Scopus" Journals included in these systems are officially recognized by the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC).

The Web of Science system covers more than 12,000 publications in English and partly in German languages(since 1980). This citation database is currently owned by Thomson Reuters. The Russian-language website of Thomson Reuters provides recommendations for working with Web of Sciences.

Citation system « Scopus » is the world's largest single multidisciplinary abstract database (since 1995), which is updated daily. Scopus is the most extensive database of scientific publications without full texts. Scopus covers over 15 thousand scientific journals from 4 thousand scientific publishing houses around the world.

However, very few Russian scientific journals are represented in international databases. The cost of subscription to foreign systems is significant, which for most Russian organizations Simply unacceptable.

Therefore, in Russia since 2005 Scientific electronic library a national Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) is being created. RSCI is a national information and analytical system that includes almost 20 million publications of Russian authors, as well as information on the citation of these publications by more than 8000 Russian magazines (and about 3000 Russian journals are in the public domain; in total, there are already more than 46 thousand journals in the database).

The RSCI database is intended not only for operational support scientific research relevant reference and bibliographic information, but it is also a powerful tool that allows you to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the activities of research organizations, scientists, the level of scientific journals, etc.

In addition to bibliographic and citation information, the RSCI includes information about the authors of publications and the organizations in which they work. This mechanism makes it possible to integrate publication and citation indicators: from a research fellow-author, a structural unit and institution where a circle of authors work, to ministries and departments or entire administrative-geographical regions.

Thus, the RSCI allows:

  • analyze statistics on the publication activity of individual authors, teams of authors, organizations and journals;
  • find publications cited in a particular article;
  • find publications citing the article;
  • search bibliography by topic or subject;
  • view information about journals, authors of publications and the organizations in which they work.

Based on the RSCI database, in accordance with Order No. 406 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated October 14, 2009, when analyzing publication activity, citations are taken into account for the five years preceding the current year. Although the general indicators take into account the publication activity of the author for ALL years. It is also worth noting that the Hirschi index is not calculated in 5 recent years(today this is the period 2009-2013), but for the entire period.

As mentioned above, the personal citation index can be used to judge the scientific productivity of one author.

The Russian Citation Index includes 3 main indicators:

  • total number of publications, where this person appears as an author or co-author. The index is not divided by the number of co-authors, and self-citations are not subtracted.
  • number of citations of the author’s works (according to the bibliography)
  • Hirschi index

It should be noted that when assessing a personal citation index, one should be guided by the rule of comparing like with like. Thus, it makes no sense to compare the indices and reports of a professor who has been involved in science for 50 years, with a large number of publications, and a young graduate student who has published 4–5 articles, just as it would be incorrect to compare the citation index of researchers in different fields of science and medicine.

Hirsch index

In addition to the citation index, another very informative indicator is the so-called Hirsch index (h-index). The Hirsch index was proposed in 2005 by American physicist Jorge Hirsch from the University of San Diego, California.

The most important thing to understand is how “it stands for”:

For example, an h-index of 8 means that scientists have published at least 8 works, each of which has been cited at least 8 times. In this case, the number of works cited fewer times can be any. The h-index for a scientific journal, organization or country can be calculated in a similar way.

Like any formal indicator, the h-index has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of the index include the fact that it will be equally low both for the author of one super-popular article and for the author of many works cited no more than once. The Hirsch index allows you to filter out the so-called. "random co-authors"; this indicator will be high only for those who have enough publications, and all of them (or at least many of them) are in sufficient demand, i.e. often cited by other researchers.

The index “works” well only when comparing scientists working in the same field.

The RSCI database is still far from complete, as it is being formed relatively recently and is compiled very unsystematically. But it is constantly improving.

How to increase the RSCI and the Hirsch index?

  1. Strive to publish original articles of high scientific and practical level, which other authors would willingly refer to.
  2. Published in collaboration with a colleague who has high scientometric indicators.
  3. In publications, provide links to your own articles published in other journals. When sending publications to English-language publications, provide links to your own articles published in translated literature.
  4. Those. increase self-citation, as well as exchange links to colleagues' articles. To do this, share information about the publication with your colleagues.
  5. In publications, indicate VEIP as the author’s place of work
  6. Submit articles to journals supported by the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission, where published materials undergo thorough scientific examination and are available on the Internet.
  7. Write high-quality abstracts.
  8. To increase the impact factor of “your” journal, provide links to articles in “your journal”, as well as actively inform colleagues about the articles of this team of authors published in the journal. If “your” journal is not in the RSCI database, recommend that the publisher register in it. Here is information for publishers of periodicals, and here for non-periodicals.
  9. Be more attentive to the correct bibliographic formatting of your articles and reference lists, to the spelling of your last name and first name.
  10. And once again: When publishing articles, it is worth considering the presence of the journal in the RSCI and in the list recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission.

What citation level should authors have? There is no definite answer, but approximate guidelines exist:

  • The Hirsch index from 0-2 according to the Russian Science Citation Index - corresponds to the scientific activity of a novice scientist (applicant scientific degree, graduate student);
  • Hirsch index from 3 to 6 according to the RSCI - corresponds to the scientific activity of a candidate of sciences;
  • Hirsch index from 7 to 10 according to the RSCI - corresponds to the scientific activity of a doctor of sciences;
  • The Hirsch index from 11 to 15 corresponds to the scientific activity of a famous scientist (member of the dissertation council, founder of a scientific school);
  • An H-index of 16 and above corresponds to the scientific activity of a world-famous scientist (head of a scientific organization, chairman of a dissertation council)

Head department "Psychotherapy" VEIP

RSCI, or the Russian Science Citation Index, takes into account citations and publications of authors in 7 thousand Russian journals and contains information about 700 thousand scientists and 11 thousand scientific organizations.

The project has existed since 2005, but in many areas of science earlier archives are presented. In 2005, the Ministry of Education and Science put on the agenda the issue of improving the quality of scientific and research activities in Russia.

The reason for this was the extremely low number of references to the works of Russian scientists by their Western colleagues. It was assumed that this was due to the lack of tools for objective assessment of the work of researchers. As a result, healthy competition did not stimulate scientists to work at a higher quality, and material support in the form of grants and awards was often given to the wrong author who really deserved it.

All over the world, a scientist’s rating is assessed using scientometric indicators; they are calculated by special analytical platforms Web of Science, Scopus). A competition was announced for the creation of the RSCI. Based on the results of the competition, the Elibrary electronic library was chosen as the official website. It is on this Internet resource that you can find out the RSCI rating for scientists, journals, and scientific organizations.

The RSCI index allows you to objectively evaluate scientific activity. For this purpose, special scientometric indicators have been developed. Both RSCI and other analytical platforms use them for their activities. Speaking about what functions the RSCI performs, we should separately emphasize the informational one.

Since 2010, the RSCI database began to include not only articles from scientific periodicals, but also monographs, dissertations, theses and reports from collections of conference materials, patents, and textbooks.

RSCI journals and conferences are included in databases based on the selection of the highest quality ones. Although in Russian science It is discussed how conscientiously this selection is carried out, however, completely incompetent publications are not taken into account for calculating the index.

To objectively assess the quality of a scientist’s work, the citation index is used. Unlike English-language analytical platforms, scientometric indicators of the RSCI are calculated in a differentiated manner. You can see not only the number of citations of a researcher’s works, but also see the percentage of self-citations, mentions in reference lists, and links in independent articles of the scientist’s former co-authors.

RSCI also calculates the Hirsch index - this is an indicator that is equal to the number of articles cited at least a certain number of times.

Many scientists are interested in the question of how to increase RSCI indicators. You can increase your RSCI rating using various tricks that cannot be calculated. For example, mutual citation is popular, when colleagues agree to mention each other in their works, and journals sometimes require authors to refer to any publication from this publication in their article.

How to register with the RSCI and how to determine your index

First of all, to get into the RSCI, a scientist must create a personal account. Registration in the RSCI is carried out on the website Elibrary.ru. The user indicates his passport details, place of work, email address, and creates a login and password to exit. After this, he receives a personal code in his mailbox, which he will need to access the RSCI scientometric database. This is how a scientist can access the RSCI: how to find out his index, and evaluate the performance of colleagues or the degree of authority of the journal.

One of the advantages of this system is the ability to independently adjust the RSCI rating indicators: both add a new publication and correct information entered by mistake. After registering with the RSCI, the author can save journal search settings in the RSCI database, store the history of viewing publications, and make thematic collections.

Without authorization, users do not have access to information from the RSCI database. This applies to both freely available articles and paid publications. In order to read full-text versions of such articles, you must subscribe to the publication. For free, a site visitor can only get acquainted with the abstract, keywords, and bibliography.

The search for journals in the RSCI database can be carried out by word or by topic, taking into account the impact factor or without it.

RSCI: requirements for the design of an article, journal, bibliography

A few years ago they adopted single standard registration of publications for the RSCI. The requirements for articles are fully set out in a pdf document, where all the details are described in detail on 5 pages: title and font size (Times New Roman, 14), paragraph indent (1.25 cm), margin width (2 cm), line spacing (1.5).

It is forbidden to use the letter “е”, colored pictures, bold font, or insert spaces between paragraphs. The text is aligned in width, word wrapping should be automatic. All references to literary sources throughout the text are placed in square brackets.

The RSCI requirements for the design of a list of references are as follows: automatic numbering of sources is not allowed (only manually), font size - 12, names of sources are drawn up according to a standard template. Example of bibliography design: Ivanov I. I. Enterprise Economics: a textbook for students / I. I. Ivanov, A. T. Petrova. – 3rd ed., revised. and additional – Voronezh: VSU, 2014. – 338 p. – ISBN 865-5-322-33347-2.

The nuances of preparing a bibliography are presented in the RSCI methodological manual

Publication requirements also make it necessary for the reference section to be compiled by the researcher himself, and not by the journal editors. The reference part includes an abstract, a list of keywords, and information about the author. This data is also typed in 12 font, information about the author includes the surname and initials, the full name of the organization on the basis of which the research was carried out, city, academic title, degree and position of the scientist. The author's surname and the name of the institution are given in Russian and English according to RSCI standards.

The requirements for journals are not so clear. Inclusion of a scientific publication in the RSCI list is possible on the basis of a contract between the editors and the administration electronic library Elibrary. You can fill out an application on the website on the Internet.

How the RSCI database and its official website are developing

Several years ago, the project leaders entered into contracts with the administration of the Web of Science and Scopus platforms. Now the Russian Science Citation Index on the official website is indicated taking into account the researcher’s rating indicators from these analytical sites. In 2015, the best periodicals from the RSCI list of journals were included in the Web of Science database. Reference part of articles on English language posted in the public domain - these are annotations, information about the author, bibliography, keywords.

Afterwards, you can check how the article was attached either in the list of publications, or by going to the publication page, you will see a notification that the article is on your list.

Editing and searching for author citations in the RSCI

In chapter " My citations"You can look at the List of links to your publications. Also, what is especially important, you can find citations that were not attached to you.

Go to "My citations". In the “Show” item, select “unlinked links that may belong to this author.” Click "Search". In our case, 26 were found unlinked links, and these are 26 citations not included in the author’s indicators!

In order to add links, check the box next to the link, and then click in the menu on the right “Tools”, the item indicated in the screenshot above “Add selected links to the list of author citations”. Confirm that you are the author of the cited publications.

Additionally, you can use “Search for citations in the RSCI” in the author’s profile if the initials and surname were incorrectly indicated.

Updating bibliometric indicators of the author in the RSCI

To update bibliometric data such as H-index, number of citations, etc., go to the section in the Author's Profile " Analysis of publication activity" . Select, as shown below, “Update author metrics”.

Your metrics are now updated.

With the help of identifiers, one of the most important problems in the assessment and management of science is solved - the connection between the author and his works. Identifiers make it possible to establish a unique correspondence between the author and the results of his scientific and publication activities, which cannot be established by full name due to problems with namesakes, change of surnames during marriage, incomplete indication of names in publications, various transliterations, etc. There is no single global database of publications yet, so there are several identifiers.
