SPA (SPA) hotels in Hungary

Hungary has gained worldwide recognition as one of the most important European centers of medical tourism due to its location thermal lake Heviz, famous for its healing properties. The water temperature in the lake never drops below 22 degrees Celsius, and in summer it can reach 30-35 degrees. Healing water containing a large number of radon, sulfur, thorium, as well as carbon dioxide, is an excellent tool in the treatment and prevention of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, disorders of the nervous system, venous circulation, as well as vertebrate, gynecological diseases.

The history of Heviz as a medical resort dates back to 1795, when the construction of the first medical sanatorium began. Today, there are many hotels and medical institutions around the lake. The most famous and popular hotels located on the shores of Lake Heviz will be discussed in this article.

One of these hotels is a balneo-wellness hotel. The medical complex of the hotel includes a diagnostic center, a dental complex, a beauty salon, swimming pools (including an indoor pool with thermal water and two sections), baths, massage rooms and more. If we list the most popular procedures and programs offered to visitors of the medical complex, then here it is worth noting hydrotherapy, mechanotherapy, phototherapy, inhalations, various baths (pearl, aromatic, Cleopatra, salt), massage (aromatic, relaxing, tonic, lava stone, Thai, underwater, with grape seed oil), mud therapy, qigong, yoga, Finnish sauna, as well as various cosmetic procedures for taking care of the skin of the face and body. Another equally popular among the guests of the Heviz resort is the hotel, which also includes a large medical complex offering a traditional course of treatment with thermal water, physio and electrotherapy (ultrasound, iontophoresis, diadynamics, interference, TENS, combined ultrasonic-electric effects), inhalations, mud applications (healing mud from Lake Heviz), therapeutic exercises, stretching bath, massage (therapeutic, sports, relaxation) and other procedures. The hotel's spa services include saunas (including infra saunas), various massages, Chinese medicine programs, and facial and body beauty services.

We decided to dedicate our trip to Hungary to getting to know the country's thermal resorts: a spa hotel on Marget Island in Budapest and Lake Heviz.
Imagine that until recently I had no idea that there are a lot of thermal springs in Hungary.
The Vinsky Forum has a whole section dedicated to thermal spas in Hungary - there are a lot of them, with different composition of water and for different occasions.

Flights
A trip to Hungary has become more accessible with the opening of a direct connection between Moscow and Budapest by a low-cost airline Wizz Air.
You can compare the cost of Wizz tickets with other airlines at
Air tickets cost us around 70 euros, and, like all low-cost airlines, we had to pay for additional services - somehow the next suitcase separately.

Visa
The next question that arises among tourists is visa.
I won’t open America here: a Schengen visa is needed to travel to Hungary. And it doesn’t matter which country’s consulate issued this visa to you: for example, Ikrinka and I have French Schengen visas, and Hungary became the first country of entry for Ikrinka - the main thing is that you have a Schengen multivisa received on your own.

Route
I mentioned in the topic about renting a car in Hungary that wizz early arrival in Budapest.
There was plenty of time before checking into the hotel, and although we were warned that they were waiting as soon as possible, we decided to take a little drive through the Hungarian countryside.
We had to get to know a new country for us and feel it with our hands outside the tourist places, which is usually the capital and other large cities.
The choice fell on Esztergom(Esztergom), located on the border with neighboring Slovakia, 90 km north of Budapest.

After that, we planned to stay for a couple of days in Budapest on the island Margit(Margit-sziget), then drive 180 km to visit the spa town Heviz. Then ours for a couple of days, and before leaving home, a couple more days in Budapest. In total, 7 days were allotted for the trip - we again have a lot of trips this year, so we don’t sit anywhere for a long time.
Here is the plan and the itinerary.

Hotels
If we are talking about recreation on the waters, then it is important to choose a hotel that has its own spa complex, specialists, and its own source mineral water, your mud bath and so on.
Otherwise, you have to dress, undress, go somewhere, go out, sign up, wait in line .... These are boring activities, especially when you don't have much time.
Based on this, we gladly took advantage of an unexpected offer from a group of companies Danubius Hotels, which helped to find a complete canvas for a trip to Hungary and Romania: goulash and Tokay will wait - you also need to think about health

Lake Heviz

A small resort village among fields cut by forest belts. There are more vacationers than locals.
Hotels, pensions, B&Bs, condominiums at every turn - the place is very popular and here's why:
– Lake Heviz is the largest thermal lake in Europe.
- The composition of the water and the presence of radon in the mud of the lake heals everything related to wounds and joints.
Of course, I didn’t see the heroes of the film “The Feast of St. Jorgen” (lame on crutches) here. On the contrary, the audience here is quite cheerful, there are many young people, and I got the impression that the lake is used by people simply as a warm pool with sunbathing on the shore.

The entrance to the lake, which is essentially a water park with a fenced area, is paid. Tickets are sold at the entrance.
Paying for the entrance to the baths of Lake Heviz, you get a bracelet on your hand. The bracelet opens lockers where clothes are left. In the inner baths you can be hung up by the neck to stretch the spine, in the outer waters you can swim among the water lilies, periodically touching the slimy bottom with your feet

But despite all the advantages of the lake Hevis I liked lying in the thermal pool of the hotel more.
It was deserted, in contrast to the lake resembling a Turkish beach
Hotel residents Danubius Health Spa Resort Heviz swimming pools, sauna and fitness center of the hotel are free of charge

By tradition, I climbed into a hydro-massage bath with milk, then went for a massage - we stopped here for one day and tomorrow we had to drive 800 km towards the resort Sovata with another wonder of the world -.
In general, in order to take care of your health seriously, you need to consult a doctor who prescribes or, on the contrary, does not recommend something.
For example, I read about Lake Heviz that its water is not recommended for people who have problems with blood vessels and had thrombosis - that is, it is not recommended for me, for example.

Hungarian food, restaurants

Despite the healthy tone of my story, I will touch on the topic of food and drink in Hungary a little.
Firstly, I will note a very good restaurant in Budapest - gundel
The address of the restaurant is easily found by searching. You can sit inside, or you can sit in the open air and it does not matter that there is a zoo next door. The cries of wild animals are drowned out by a gypsy violin.
In our evening, the Russian ordered the music, so the music was peculiar: from Murka to 7-40

As a child, one of my favorite books was Hungarian, about cunning fox, who stole from the seller in the store (or from the farmer - I don’t remember exactly) hams, sausages and pies.
The names of these Hungarian culinary masterpieces made me hungry before a modest meal in a family of engineers in the 70s
Gundel has a menu and a map. I took the standard menu, which is offered with Hungarian wine: Hungarian Sauternes for foie gras, Hungarian Ox blood for meat ... In general, everything is balanced.
Ikrinka ordered by card. There was a big temptation to order Siberian sturgeon caviar, but the price of a portion was like my standard menu. Money is not a pity, but we ate a little black caviar during a previous trip to

A little more about Hungary and the people living in this country.
Small country. It borders with Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia.
Hungarians speak Hungarian, which resembles some wild mixture of Slovak, German, Ukrainian and Finnish.
The country is small and cozy. The streets are clean and calm. The fields are sown or plowed. All farms are strong and I have not seen abandoned houses or abandoned rusty equipment.
In general, everything is in chocolate there.
The people are calm. Mind their own business, relax. The attitude towards Russians is even - as well as to other nationalities who come to Hungary to visit.

PS. By the way, both noted what was noticed: the style of recreation in the parks among the Hungarians differs from the style of recreation of the Russians: the Hungarians go in for sports in the parks, read, play volleyball, badminton. Not a single disposable brazier or beer cans was noticed)))

That's all

Thermal springs are considered a national treasure of Hungary! They betray strength, cheer up and treat various diseases.

Magnificent illumination of evening Budapest. Great panoramic views of the city at night.

It is known that in the 17th century Tokay wines became known in Russia, where they came from Poland: in 1606, Mnishek brought thirty barrels of Tokay wine to Moscow for the wedding of his daughter with False Dmitry. In the Muscovite state, many people liked it, and both at the court and among the nobles, drinking Hungarian wines became a custom.

Tokaji aszu is made from grapes affected by the noble mold Botrytis cinerea. Infection of grapes with Botritis Cinerea results in raisining of the berries and a relative increase in sugar as a result of juice concentration. Dehydrated grapes (asu) are harvested by hand and placed in putoni (special containers), in which the grapes, under the pressure of their own weight, begin to produce a thick extractive juice. Juice is added to the base wine. the more putonei in tokay asu wine, the higher its quality. After that, the wine is bottled and stored in cellars.

Hungarian salami with paprika. Hungarian Pick salami is a well-known hungaricum, a unique product produced in one particular region and being the pride of the national cuisine like Belgian chocolate, Scotch whiskey or Italian gorgonzola cheese.
