How to properly wrap boxing bandages around your hands?

Article content:

What are boxing bandages commonly used for? What materials are they made from. How to wind them on your hands - all the nuances.

Representatives of many sports require special hand protection before putting on gloves. The only problem is that not everyone knows how to properly wrap boxing bandages. In this article, we will consider all the nuances related to this issue.

What it is?

In fact, a boxing bandage is an ordinary rag tape, which can have a different length (the maximum option is 5 meters). As a rule, the length of the arm is selected taking into account several parameters:

  • overall glove size;
  • selected winding option;
  • brush dimensions and so on.

To put it simply, it is better not to take short bandages at all. As a rule, they are not enough to wrap the wrist and carpal part of the hand with high quality. At least three meters. But again, before you buy a product and bandage it, accurately measure the size of the brush.

Few people know, but the use of boxing bandages is possible not only in boxing. It is necessary to wind your hands in kickboxing, Thai boxing and other types of power martial arts. If you know how to properly wrap boxing bandages, you can protect yourself from a lot of trouble - broken fingers, injuries to the palms or wrists. The bandage helps to reliably protect against torn ligaments and tendons, sprains, dislocations and cracks.

A characteristic feature of the “correct” bandages is the presence of a special loop for putting on a finger, as well as Velcro. In the absence of these elements, it is better to refuse to purchase the product (normal winding is excluded in this case). If something happens, the result will be far from ideal. We must not forget about another purpose of bandages - strengthening the blow, thanks to the tight fixation of the fingers.

There is only one conclusion - it is necessary to wind such products by hand. Especially if you are counting on good results in battle and protecting your hand from unnecessary injuries.

Types of bandages

All bandages for boxers can be divided into several types (by material):

  • cotton bandages. Feature - the ability to "breathe" and effectively absorb moisture, which contributes to a longer "life" of the product. In addition, cotton bandages do not compress blood vessels, without impairing the overall processes of blood circulation. The last factor is due to the fact that after winding it is immediately clear whether the products are overtightened or not. If there is a slight pressure, then you can immediately loosen the tension and make it comfortable. But there is also a drawback. With prolonged use, the normal winding of the bandages becomes a problem. But here, of course, it all depends on the care of the bandages. If they are washed from time to time and dried regularly, then there will be no difficulties;
  • elastic bandages. You can find products that are made of special stretching (elastic) materials. Their feature is a clear laying on the hand and reliable fixation. The disadvantage of an elastic product is a high risk of imperceptibly squeezing the hand. As a result, the general blood supply to the hand may be impaired. It is important to recall here that constriction in the case of bandages can lead to a number of problems - swelling, injury, and so on. It happens that after wrapping the hands are normal and it seems that the bandages are not tightened. In turn, problems can arise already during the battle.

The conclusion here is obvious - it is better to use cotton products. They are more affordable and easier to wind. In this case, the length should be from three meters, and the width - about five centimeters. You can choose the color according to your own interests.

Winding secrets

Now consider how to bandage your hands correctly. I would like to note right away that this work can be done in at least ten different ways. In this article, we will pay attention to the most effective and popular option among athletes. If the method does not work, then you can try another option. Here everything is individual.

The winding technique consists of the following steps:

  1. Find the looped part of the bandage and put it on your thumb. At the same time, pay attention that the bandage should start from the outside of the arm. It is not recommended to bandage the hand from the lower (inner) part of the hand, because with this setting, after a few blows, the loop can fall off the finger.
  2. Roll the bandage around your wrist. When choosing the number of turns, you should focus on your well-being. The task of such a winding is to qualitatively fix the wrist, which has to withstand the lion's share of the load.
  3. Once the wrist is covered with a bandage, it is necessary to make one turn around the main finger.
  4. The thumb can be wrapped once or twice. After that, the bandage should be pulled over the knuckles and made several turns (1-2 times).
  5. Now proceed to winding each of the fingers. Move gradually, starting with the index finger and gradually approaching the little finger. The principle of winding each of the fingers is very simple. The bandage covers the wrist, then the index finger, then the wrist again, the middle finger, and so on.
  6. Once all the fingers are prepared, it remains to make a few turns around the shock part of the hand, after which you can move to the wrist (to fix the Velcro).

In conclusion, consider a few tips that are sure to come in handy when winding:

  • try to wind the bandages yourself - do not trust anyone. This is because it is difficult for another person to feel the optimal degree of tension;
  • take care of the bandages after removal. At a minimum, they must be dried and properly folded;
  • when winding the bandage, make sure that the product does not press when the hand is unclenched. When the brush is compressed, the product should tightly fit the fist.
